Follows a schedule and lesson plan by which classrooms are conducted.
May lead and functionally supervise teacher's assistants.
Duties & Responsibilities Ensure classroom compliance with all regulating agencies which includesDivision of Child Care and EarlyChildhood Education and Division of Provider Services and Quality Assurance.
Ensures classroom has been signed and locked at end of day.
Completes accident/incident reports as needed.
Provides activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children.
Assists ECDS or Lead ECDT in planning and preparing classroom setting; oversees safety and educational programs; supervises children in the classroom; provides a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.
Maintain confidentiality in the workplace which includes but is not limited to patient, employee, and company information.
Maintains a clean, safe, healthy, and sanitary learning environment for children and ensures that children are kept clean, clothing is changed when necessary, and toys and other materials are disinfected each day.
Interacts with parents in professional manner; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.
Attends parent participation events that include parent information meetings, open house, festivals, parent teacher conferences, education opportunities, parent volunteers and parent events.
Completes professional development to meet requirements to be in compliance with Child Care Licensing and maintain Better Beginnings.
May lead, guide, and train employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work.
Required Skills/Abilities Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.
Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth.
Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.
Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Ability to resolve conflict and deal with issues.
Education Requirements High School Diploma (or equivalency).
Physical Requirements Considerable physical activity.
Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
Must be able to traverse classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
Must be willing and able to sit on the floor and get up without assistance.
